No Known Cure – 'Asbestos Cancer'
Along with seeking medical advice and treatment you should seek only a qualified mesothelioma attorney for your case. Financial compensation for your suffering will be litigated on your behalf. The process can be lengthy and the expertise of a mesothelioma attorney is necessary for you or a loved one diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Asbestos was manufactured in the United States and Canada as early at the late 1800’s and its dangers kept from the public as far back as 1920. Asbestos is a magnesium silicate that has extremely fine fibers when inhaled causes lung damage and lung disease. It was known for decades that asbestos was dangerous and was not banned until a little over 20 years ago.
Mesothelioma also known as ‘asbestos cancer’ attacks the mesothelium lining of the internal organs of the body. Usually this begins with the lungs since asbestos fibers are inhaled. This causes pleural effusion which is an accumulation of fluid between the lining of the lung and the chest cavity. This occurs in almost 90% of the patients with mesothelioma. Other symptoms include fever, loss of appetite, and loss of weight. When the peritoneal or the abdominal cavity organs are involved the symptoms are abdominal swelling and pain due to fluid in the abdomen.
If mesothelioma is suspected, your doctor will order multiple tests to diagnose this disease and its progression or stage. Diagnostic imaging equipment such as MRI, CT scans or X-Rays are used to view the tumor. A biopsy of the tumor tissue will then be taken to determine how advanced the tumor is and its stage from Stage I to Stage IV cancer. Stage I is contained in the lung or one organ and Stage IV the most advanced which has moved from the primary location.
Treatment options will be discussed with the patients by an oncologist. One or more of traditional methods will be prescribed such as surgery, x-ray radiation therapy or chemotherapy. There is no known cure for mesothelioma or ‘asbestos cancer’ but a new recent treatment showing promise is Alimta. Alimta has been approved by the FDA and is used in combination with traditional platinum based chemotherapy or cisplatin.
It is time, don’t wait, contact a mesothelioma attorney. A qualified mesothelioma attorney will discuss all that will take place during the litigation process. He or she will work closely with you and will understand yours and your family’s needs.
A mesothelioma attorney will bring a lawsuit against your employer or manufacturer of the asbestos products in which you were exposed. A mesothelioma attorney in most cases will not ask for payment up front but will take a percentage from the successful lawsuit awarded to the patient.
